Exercises for High Hamstring Pain | High Hamstring Tendinopathy Relief
I cover the top 5 exercises for high hamstring pain. This is the third step in rehabbing a high hamstring injury (tendinopathy) and this stage covers some function isotonic exercises with hip flexion. In this video, five exercises are covered: 1) Slow hip thrusts, 2) Forward step-ups, 3) Walking lunges, 4) Romanian deadlifts (RDL), and 5) Deadlifts. The most common high hamstring injury is called high hamstring tendinopathy, also known as proximal hamstring tendinopathy. Hamstring tendinopathy injuries are common in runners and often develop when you increase your running volume or intensity too quickly. Besides high hamstring tendinopathy, other common injuries in this area are hamstring strains or avulsion fractures.
Common symptoms of high hamstring tendinopathy include pain just below your buttocks, pain that is aggravated by activities like running or stretching deeply, and sharp localized discomfort that is tender to the touch over the proximal hamstring tendon.
The great news is that high hamstring pain can be successfully rehabbed without surgery or injections in the vast majority of cases. A comprehensive exercise plan for high hamstring tendinopathy should always include a strategic rehab program. Other treatments that can be helpful include addressing hip joint function with manipulation, IASTM or soft tissue therapy, and dry needling (see some hamstring dry needling I did by checking out the video at the end of this one.)
If you're in the beginning stages of recovering from a high hamstring injury, make sure you see our previous videos for isometric hamstring exercises (Stage 1) and isotonic exercises with minimal hip flexion (Stage 2).
If you want some more detailed advice and more information about high hamstring injuries and pain you can read more in our blogs below.

The second stretch was a total miracle for Me. Pain dulled instantly and mobility returned. I notice my shoulder nerve gets pinched when I eat too much fatty red meat like ribeye and New York strip. . If i eat 95% lean ground beef the pain subsides within 30 minutes . I have no idea why but I’ve repeated this many times always with the same result.

I tried all of these tests and did not feel anything. I still have the tingling feeling from right below my shoulder down below my elbows into my forearm whenever my neck is in a certain position. I feel it's either coming from my neck or shoulder blade. If I lay down on the rolled towel under my neck, the tingling begins but then goes away as my neck and upper back stretch. I know it's tightness, but I don't know how to loosen it up. What should I do?

Thanks for the elaborate information. I had golfers elbow years ago due to serving with tennis but was treated and the inside of my lower arm is stronger now. However, I now have pain, again due to serving, but now on the other side of the elbow bone, near the triceps. Is that still golfers elbow?

What counts as a rep? I start with the injured arm/hand holding the theraband then use the other hand to twist, then release the wrist. Do I start with the theraband in one hand for each rep (as in start from scratch) or do I twist once and hold then flex my wrist up and down as the rep. I wish you did a few reps with the theraband because I can't visualize how to do many of these in a row. Thanks!

Had a recent shoulder dislocation, I'm unable to lift the shoulder and arm enough to do the eye hole stretch. What I think is pinched nerve pain seems to subside after standing up and gets worse when laying/leaning back on the shoulder. I almost feel like the pinched nerve feeling was initiated during PT exercises such as the "wall crawl", and have since been dealing with it. Tough getting rest at night.
